Crane hire safety regulations
All crane hire companies work to the terms and conditions of the CPA (Construction Plant Hire Association) and in accordance with BS7121 ("The Safe Use of Cranes").
Suttons offer you the option of either lifts based on CPA conditions or a Contract Lift basis. If you're not sure which is the best option for you please consider the following:
- Have you hired a crane before?
- Have you employees with CPCS appointed person / CPCS slinger signaller or correct insurance cover?
- Do you know the weight / dimensions of the lift?
- Can the crane set up on a good hard-standing?
- Is there enough room for the crane to enter / exit the site?
- Is the area free of obstructions such as overhead cables, underground services or confined spaces?
If you answered no to any of the questions above a CPA Contract Lift may be the best option for you. If you would like to speak to one of our representatives to organise a free site survey please call us on 0161 748 1848 or 07831 265 991 or email antsut1@hotmail.com
Brief details on both kinds of lift can be found below and further information on our crane hire page.
CPA Contract Lift
As this is a high risk industry we recommend that customers who are not experienced in hiring cranes and not aware of the responsibilities, duties and risks take advantage of our CPA Contract Lift service.
With this option, all aspects of the lift from initial planning, health & safety assessment and monitoring, and management of the lift itself through to all necessary insurance is provided by Suttons to ensure your total peace of mind.
Just call or email us for more details.
CPA Crane Hire
In accordance with Health and Safety Executive guidelines we can only provide a crane on a CPA Crane Hire basis if the customer provides a qualified and experienced appointed person to plan and take responsibility for the lifting operation.
You will be liable for all health and safety issues both when planning the lift and whilst the job is being carried out. Insurance must also be provided to cover all personnel and equipment involved in the lift, as well as the goods being lifted.
Health and Safety

At Suttons we're extremely proud of our unblemished health and safety record, so much so that we've built it into our motto - 100% quality, 100% safety.
Safety is always our first thought when planning a lift, and of course all our staff are fully trained to the highest standards to ensure not only their own safety, but that of other employees, site staff and the general public.
